quijada

  • Instrument made from the jawbone of a donkey or mule and played by striking the lower jaw against the upper producing a sharp rattle effect. Today's Vibra-Slap was made to replicate the sound of the traditional Quijada.

  • quinto

  • Drum of African origin, with a surface for striking smaller than the conga. It produces a high-pitched sound, and its speed and its nervousness make of it a percussion of choice for the improvisation. It is sometimes indicated under the name " requinto ".
